| Immigrant and Refugee Counseling
The Immigrant and Refugee Counseling Program provides culturally sensitive counseling to refugees and immigrants, particularly for victims of family violence or human trafficking. Mosaic’s bilingual counselors utilize a Multicultural Counseling Model to to meet the unique needs of refugees and immigrants. Counselors help clients move beyond their traumatic experiences through crisis intervention and goal setting. In individual counseling sessions, counselors help adult clients to set realistic short-term goals often related to depression, cultural adjustment, anxiety, or their mental state, and to form a plan of action to meet those goals. Counselors also hold a support group at Mosaic House which allows residents to share their stories with other victims, empowering them with the knowledge that they are not alone in their struggles. Counselors provide play and art therapy for children who have been exposed to family violence, human trafficking, or other trauma. Art therapy and play therapy have been found particularly effective in working with multicultural children, transcending language and cultural barriers, while enabling the counselor to enter a child’s world without dependence on verbal communication.
Any refugee or immigrant is eligible for services in this program. |
