| Refugee Case Management Services
The Refugee Case Management Service Program assists recently arrived refugees to receive medical and mental health care, eliminating barriers to health services, facilitating social adjustment, and promoting self-sufficiency.
What is a Refugee? A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country due to war, persecution, or violence. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries. Refugees have a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Due to this persecution, refugees cannot return to their home country. The Refugee Case Management Services program also assists asylees. An asylee is someone who has fled their own country to seek sanctuary in another country. Upon arrival, they apply for asylum – the right to be recognized as a refugee and receive legal protection and material assistance. An asylum seeker must demonstrate that his or her fear of persecution in his or her home country is well-founded. Last year, Texas welcomed nearly 10,000 refugees from around the world. More than 75% of the refugees resettled in Texas fled from Bhutan, Burma, or Iraq. Most refugees have undergone extreme physical and psychological hardship, but culture shock, limited English, and other barriers often prevent them from accessing the health care they need. Mosaic's Case Management Services for Refugees Mosaic provides culturally sensitive comprehensive case management for newly arrived refugees who need assistance in accessing medical and mental health care. All of Mosaic's refugee case managers are former refugees themselves, fluent in English and a refugee language, and certified as medical interpreters. Services include :
