This year’s Night of Hope was hosted by Honorary Chair Ebby Halliday, well-known and highly respected philanthropist and realtor in the Dallas area. The event featured our Keynote Speaker Mildred Muhammad. Most of us remember how John Muhammad terrorized the DC Metro Area in 2002; shooting innocent victims as they filled up their cars or took their children to school. Before the killing spree was finished, 17 people lost their lives and ten others were injured. Few people know that the killer was an abusive husband driven by the desire to murder his ex-wife, Mildred Muhammad, who had left their violent relationship. John Muhammad was shooting innocent men and women near where Mildred lived and worked because he was ultimately planning to murder Mildred. When he did so, he wanted it to look like random violence. Ms. Muhammad shared her story of survival and hope and of her life today as an advocate for eradicating violence against women.
